Our bodies can convert ALA to EPA (and so eventually to DHA) but the conversion process is quite difficult. You need about 11 grams of ALA to get just one gram of DHA.

Animal sources

Animal sources of omega 3 fatty acids include fish oil, fish liver, grass-fed beef (not grain-fed) and milk from grass-fed cows, and eggs from chickens fed on greens and insects.

Animals sources contain EPA and DHA, with oily fish having the most concentrated amounts.

So, on the whole, it’s best to eat animal-based omega 3 products, particularly oily fish. If you really don’t want to eat fish or other animal products, you can find microalgae products (seaweed) that have been produced in bioreactors to increase their natural levels of DHA.

Fish oil supplements

While it’s a good idea to increase your consumption of oily fish as one of the best sources of omega 3 fatty acids, there are some drawbacks to eating more fish.

Unfortunately, many of the oily fish species caught in the world today, such as tuna, salmon and mackerel, may contain high levels of heavy metals (mercury and lead), PCBs and dioxins. These substances can cause cancers and developmental problems and many health experts now advise people to be wary of eating too much fish, even at the risk of eating too little omega 3.

What does the new and improved Fastin do?  These slimming pills are not appetite suppressants.  Rather, they are fat burner supplements produced by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals who bought rights to the name Fastin.  Before anything, understand that there is no such thing as a prescription drug for sale without a prescription.  The only reason that you can buy Fastin without a prescription is because it contains phenylethylamine HCL instead of Phentermine.

There are 245 milligrams of proprietary blend and 100 milligrams of caffeine in each serving of Fastin.  When compared to the chemically based Phentermine, a slimming pill that suppresses appetite, Fastin is all energy but with limitations when it comes to aggressively altering physical makeup for weight loss.

Is it really as much as the reports of the thousands who are hurt from prescription drugs when used as directed or taken by accident due to a pharmacist’s error.

Even if it may not sound like it, the writer is grateful for the advances in medical science. The world is truly a better place for them. But the alternative performance enhancers seem to get unfairly neglected by those who believe only in MD related drugs.

One of the most innocuous substances on the market today is the green tea capsule. Bottles of these can be bought by anyone from the corner drug store. In other words, you do not have to ask your MD’s permission before buying them. Some still may feel the need to do so, however.

When used in conjunction with weight loss, green tea capsules can be the difference between a person sticking with a diet instead of falling off of it. Green tea makes one feel better. It elevates the feelings, making it far easier to refuse the second helping or compulsively eat the entire serving dish of food. The writer thinks that it does this by way of energizing endorphines, but he is hardly an expert in bio-chemistry.

Should one fear dependency on these fifteen cent capsules? Perhaps. One should fear dependency on anything. But does it not make more sense to fear dependency on food to alleviate depression? Given the obesity problem in the country at the present time it seems so.

You must ask your self why you over eat, if you do this. If it is because of depression during the day, you really might be helped by some green tea, probably up to 325mg per day (the recommended dose), in fact.
